The aims of surgery

Correction of inverted nipples aims to allow the nipples to project outwards and restore balance to the appearance of the breasts.

The procedure addresses the imbalance caused by inwardly retracted nipples. In some cases, this can make breastfeeding easier where it was previously difficult.

The result is immediate and permanent. Scars fade and sensation returns.

The importance of your first consultation

Like any cosmetic surgery procedure, correction of inverted nipples involves risks you need to understand, preoperative examinations and protocols to follow. A mammogram is prescribed in addition to the usual assessments.

Inverted nipples can sometimes make breastfeeding impossible. Although breastfeeding may be possible after surgery, success cannot be guaranteed for every woman.

It is advisable to wait until growth is complete before undergoing correction. The procedure does not increase the risk of cancer.

In certain cases, French social security may cover part or all of the procedure.

Surgery to correct inverted nipples

You will have a consultation with an anaesthetist and receive instructions on the steps to follow before surgery.

+ What type of anaesthesia is used?
The procedure is performed under local anaesthesia.

+ How is surgery performed?
Nipple inversion is caused by abnormally short milk ducts that prevent the nipple from projecting outwards.

The surgeon divides these ducts through incisions a few millimetres long, allowing the nipple to project outwards permanently.

Two small tissue flaps taken from the areola are placed between the divided ducts to prevent reconnection, reduce recurrence and maintain a stable result.

+ What about scarring?
There is a small scar between the areola and the nipple.

+ How long does surgery take?
The procedure takes around half an hour under local anaesthesia.
